About Us
Priding itself on being a family business, Hallmark Excavating, Inc. welcomes its 4th Generation into the family business.
- Bernie Harrison, the 1st generation, was the excavator for the many homes and condominiums built by Bob Ruthenberg of Hallmark Building Co. in the 1960’s and 70’s.
- Ralph Harrison, the 2nd Generation, then moved the company into the larger site work arena as Lake County became a hotbed of growth in the 1980’s and 90’s.
- Todd Harrison and Debbie Harrison, the 3rd Generation, had the challenge of diversifying the company’s customer base, when the building recession hit in the 2000’s.
- And now, Bob Southall (Civil Engineering) and Brooke Harrison (Project Management) are bringing the 4th Generation into this family business.
Hallmark Excavating was born out of another family business, Hallmark Building Company, to meet both the building and excavating aspects of residential homes. The excavating business was started in 1960 with three principals, Albert Ruthenberg, Robert Ruthenberg, of Hallmark Building Company, and Bernard Harrison. With the Ruthenberg family managing operations and the Harrison family managing the field, Hallmark Excavating has continued to flourish for over 50 years.
